Roos Sting MVCC With 3 Goals In Final 6 Minutes
(Canton, N.Y.)- Earlier this season the SUNY Canton men's ice hockey
team pulled off a remarkable comeback against Mohawk Valley Community
College rallying from a 4-1 third period deficit to pull out a 5-4 overtime
win. On Sunday the Roos did it again to the Hawks scoring three goals
in the final six minutes to squeak out a 3-2 win at the Canton Pavilion.
With 5:29 left in the third period and the Hawks holding a 2-0 lead, Dylan Gronowski (Buffalo, N.Y.) finally got the Roos on the board scoring from Kevin Moro (Congers, N.Y.). A mere six seconds later the game was tied 2-2 when Colin LaPointe-Potter (Norwood, N.Y.) scored from Mark Stewart (Gansevoort, N.Y.) and Mark Talamo (Oswego, N.Y.).
Sam Rooney (Ellington, Conn.) then picked an ideal time to score his first goal of the season when he found the back of the net with 40 seconds left in regulation to cap off the improbable comeback. LaPointe-Potter and Talamo assisted on Rooney's goal.
Jimmy Merrow (Plainsboro, N.J.) stopped 23 shots for the Roos.
Brian Frankel had 36 saves for the Hawks and Kenny Lane and Kevin McCready each scored a goal.
