O'Connell Scores Twice In 5-2 Win Over Oswego State
(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton men’s' ice hockey team earned a weekend split with Oswego State as they knocked off the Lakers 5-2 Saturday afternoon at the Canton Pavilion. The Roos (13-8-2) had lost 5-3 Friday night.
SUNY Canton raced out to a 3-0 lead in the first period on Saturday. Dylan Gronowski (Buffalo, N.Y.) started the scoring just 3:22 into the game when he connected from Eric Cook (Cary, N.C.) and Kyle Simonds (Binghamton, N.Y.). Two minutes later Mark Talamo (Oswego, N.Y.) scored from Colin LaPointe-Potter (Norwood, N.Y.) and then at the 16:23 mark Kevin O'Connell (Cadyville, N.Y.) scored the first of his two goals from Garrett Rosenbaum (Charleston, S.C.).
Oswego State got a late goal in the first period from Brad Kervin and then a quick goal 1:31 into the second period from Ethen Ericksen to trim the lead to 3-2.
But Rosenbaum and O'Connell both scored in the final period to secure the win.
Jimmy Merrow (Plainsboro, N.J.) recorded 28 saves for the Roos while Michael Whittaker and Greg Feiden combined to make 33 saves for the Lakers.
