Head Coach John Kennedy
(Canton, N.Y.)- The SUNY Canton athletic department is pleased to name John Kennedy as the new men's and women's cross country coach. Kennedy takes over for Chris Marquart who left SUNY Canton to become the director of residence life at Green Mountain College in Vermont.
“We are very pleased to have John join our staff,” said athletic director Diane Para. “John is an avid runner with an extensive background in cross country and track. His admissions experience in terms of recruiting will be extremely valuable to the cross country program.”
Kennedy is no stranger to SUNY Canton. He has served as the assistant director of admissions since 2007 and he also earned an associate's degree in business administration from the school in 2000.
In addition to working at SUNY Canton, Kennedy has been the head track and field coach at Gouverneur Central School and an assistant coach with the Canton Central indoor track and field team.
Kennedy ran competitively in both cross country and track at SUNY Geneseo, where he earned his bachelor's degree in business administration. Kennedy received his master's degree in counseling and development from St. Lawrence University in 2004 and he also holds a one-year certificate as an automotive advisor from SUNY Canton and is certified as a New York State Provisional School Counselor.
Kennedy will leave his current position in admissions to become a residence hall director and coach. He will still work one day a week in admissions.
Kennedy currently lives in Norwood with his wife Katie.
