Al Benda

Al will enter his 13th year as head coach of the men's soccer team in the fall of 2009. Al is only the second coach in the program's history.

Last season Al coached the men's and women's soccer teams and led both teams into the championship games of the Sunrise Conference tournament. He was name Coach of the Year for the women's team. The previous year he guided the Roos to a second place finish in their first year as a four-year program in both the Sunrise Conference regular season and conference tournament.

Prior to becoming a four-year athletic program, Al garnered three Coach of the Year awards and led his teams to eight post-season appearances.

Al graduated from SUNY Cortland where he also earned his master's degree. While at Cortland, he played soccer and hockey. Al also attended Cayuga Community College where he played soccer and tennis and ran track.

Al has coached boy's soccer at Gouverneur and Hammond Central School and boy's ice hockey at Canton Central School. He currently works at Potsdam Middle School as a physical education teacher and head coach of the boys ice hockey team.

Al lives in Canton with his wife Shelly and daughter Taylor.
