Message From the Athletic Director

Diane Para

Welcome to the SUNY Canton Athletic Website!

As is often said, the only thing that is constant is change and SUNY Canton athletics has been abound with change as we continue our amazing journey and transition to four-year athletics.

With a new look, new mascot name, new turf field and new baseball field we forged into four-year competition in 2007 with enthusiasm and excitement- eager to face new challenges, create new successes and begin a new chapter in the college’s history. The success our teams enjoyed in our inaugural year was impressive and inspiring and we look forward to building upon these successes as our transition continues.

Our change is only beginning as we await the completion of our new $46 million athletic facility and approval of new four-year academic programs such as Sports Management and Health & Fitness Promotions; all of which I believe will have a profound impact on our future.

Giving heartbeat to these changes and providing the foundation of our success past, present and future is our dedicated athletic staff who understands that our success is most defined by our collective commitment to our student-athletes. While we strive for competitive and successful programs, we appreciate the fact that the greater responsibility of what we do is help our student-athletes develop the necessary skills and attitudes to become successful in the classroom and productive in their lives and careers after SUNY Canton. Fostering and nurturing the development of good people, good students and good athletes are important objectives towards our ultimate goal of helping our student-athletes realize and reach their fullest potential while here.

The importance of sound character is woven into all we do and we are firmly committed to the ideals of the NAIA’s Champions of Character program. It is my hope that fostering a commitment to character will hopefully produce an athletic program that is known not for its competitiveness alone but for the strong character and servant leadership of our student-athletes.

As we continue to embrace change and challenges, we will remain committed through our service and our continual improvements to our programs and facilities, to provide an athletic experience for our student-athletes that is rewarding, enriching, and enjoyable.

Diane Para,
Director of Athletics/Assistant Dean of Students
