Jerry Sawyer
Senior Staff Assistant for Athletic Facilities and Event Management
Jerry is in his first year as a full-time member of the SUNY Canton Athletic Department as a senior staff member for athletic facilities and event management.
Jerry is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of all the athletic facilities at SUNY Canton. He also serves as an event supervisor and game administrator for athletic contests at SUNY Canton and assists in the supervision of work-student students and student assistants.
Jerry is no stranger to the college as he is in his 26 year at the institution, 25 spent working in the physical plant. Jerry started in 1983 as the campus plumber. From there he advanced to being a trade supervisor. He has also served as interim director of the physical plant and prior to joining the athletic department was the assistant director of the physical plant.
Jerry has also been an assistant football and baseball coach at SUNY Canton.
Off campus Jerry has served in many youth coaching capacities. In 2008 he was an assistant coach with the Canton High School varsity football team, roaming the sidelines with his son Satch, who was head coach. He has also coached Grasshopper and modified baseball at Ogdensburg Free Academy; modified and junior varsity football at OFA; and he was an assistant coach with the OFA varsity hockey team.
Jerry lives in Lisbon with his partner Sallie.
