Interested in joining SUNY Canton EMS? You should know some information that may be helpful as you navigate the process.

Application Process

The first step in joining is to complete our Membership Application. Within 14 days (while school is in session) of receiving your application, a leadership team member will reach out and schedule an interview with you. In this interview, we will ask questions to get to know you better, understand why you want to join the organization, and learn about your goals.

After the interview, the team will meet, contact your references, and determine if you will be a good fit within our agency. You will be contacted within 14 days (while school is in session) with one of three outcomes:

• We think you would be a good fit and would like to offer you a probationary membership status.
• We need some more information to better determine if you would be a good fit.
• We don't think you would be a good fit (right now). Don't be discouraged if you get this response, It could be for a number of reasons such as us not thinking you will have the time to commit based on your current schedule, or us not having positions available that you are qualified for at that time. You can always re-apply again in the future.

Probationary Membership

During your probationary period, you will be asked to complete a Brightspace training course that will provide you with the information you will need to be successful in our agency. During this time, we will also run a background check. You will also be required to attend the weekly meetings and training during your probationary membership period. If everything comes back okay, you will be granted full membership status once you complete the probationary member training. At this point, you will be able to begin running calls.
