A Blackout Poem
By Logan Coggins
Author’s Note
“U.S. EmbarrasSment” stems from time spent enduring the caprices of U.S. Customs and Border Protection during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. An arbitrary national border kept me and my partner separated for over a year despite that we lived less than 40 miles apart. Post-lockdown, crossing the border for a "legitimate purpose" was a gauntlet of inhumane bureaucracy and doublespeak due to an archaic fixation with marital status.
