Description of Duties
The State University of New York (SUNY) College at Canton and the School of Business and Liberal Arts invite qualified applicants for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Business Department, beginning September 1, 2025.
Responsibilities
- Teach a variety of courses within the Legal Studies B.S. program, with a 4/4 course load, across face-to-face, online, and hybrid (flex) formats.
- Support efforts to continuously develop and enhance the curriculum to ensure it meets the evolving needs of the legal field and prepares students for successful careers.
- Involvement in program assessment.
- Advise students enrolled in Business Department majors, guiding them through their academic and career pathways.
- Actively participate in faculty governance and other university service activities.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to enhance teaching skills and stay current in the field.
- Produce law-related research and secure publication in peer-reviewed journals and/or conference proceedings.
- Engage with local businesses, entrepreneurs, and community organizations to create partnerships that benefit students and enhance their learning experiences.
- Participate in ongoing assessment and evaluation of courses and programs to ensure they meet educational objectives and maintain high standards of quality.
- Cultivate alumni relationships to support student networking, gather program feedback, and facilitate internships for Legal Studies B.S. students.
Qualifications
REQUIRED:
- A Juris Doctor Degree and prior teaching experience in college-level courses, includes graduate-level teaching assistantship within a law-related degree program.
- Ability to develop and deliver law courses across online, face-to-face, and flex (hybrid) modalities.
- Ability to teach a wide-range of undergraduate-level law courses, including business law, criminal practice, civil litigation, legal research, and advanced legal writing
- Strong commitment to academic mentoring and student development.
PREFERRED:
- Admission to state bar.
- Ph.D. in Law.
- At least 5 years of experience practicing law.
- Experience integrating applied learning into curriculum design and instruction.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching, with a proven ability to engage and inspire students in both traditional and online settings.
- Proven ability to work effectively with a diverse student body, including non-traditional and first-generation college students.
- Experience collaborating with industry partners to create real-world learning opportunities, such as internships, co-op programs, or capstone projects.
- Strong background in academic advising and mentoring, with a focus on guiding students through their academic and career pathways.
- Experience with institutional service and faculty governance.
