Description of Duties
The State University of New York (SUNY) College at Canton invites qualified applicants for a full-time, Title IX Coordinator. The Title IX Coordinator has primary responsibility for managing the responsibilities associated with the College’s compliance obligations pursuant to Title IX. This position reports to the Assistant Dean of Students (under the Vice President for Student Affairs) and will work closely with Director of Human Resources and Chief of University Police. This position will ensure that reporting parties and respondents alike are provided a fair and equal process at SUNY Canton. This position provides leadership, collaboration, and coordination with departments and campus stakeholders in support of intakes, investigations, education, and training.
Responsibilities
- Serves as the central resource and institutional custodian of record of Title IX sex-based discrimination, harassment, and sexual assault and related retaliation record for internal and external reporting purposes by maintaining documentation and records of complaints, investigations, and reports.
- Develops, oversees, and maintains processes for receiving Title IX complaints and reports of sex-based discrimination, harassment, sexual assault and related allegations of misconduct.
- Collaborates with Student Affairs, Human Resources, University Police, and other applicable stakeholders while regularly apprising affected parties of status information.
- Ensures investigations are timely, confidential, and fair.
- Manages cases in compliance with SUNY regulations as well as the College’s Title IX and Clery requirements.
- Develops and implements long-term goals for programming, services, education, and assessment of compliance efforts.
- Develops and delivers education, training, and outreach programming concerning the awareness, prevention, and reporting of sexual violence, sexual and gender-based harassment, stalking, discrimination, and retaliation. Responsibilities include preparing reports and other written material, planning and coordinating workshops, meetings and special events.
- In consultation with the Dean of Students’ Office, reviews and recommend revisions for select College policies and procedures to promote equity, consistently leads efforts to audit departmental compliance with Title IX and related policies.
- Prepares annual reports regarding the number, nature and disposition of discrimination, harassment and sexual misconduct.
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge and information regarding federal, state, and local laws and regulations relating to unlawful harassment, discrimination, sexual violence, ADA, and FERPA.
- Works with Student Affairs Technology department annually to ensure the College’s Title IX website and reporting tools are up-to-date and user-friendly.
- Work with SUNY Counsel to ensure policy compliance and best practice standards for each case as appropriate.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct work with integrity, fairness, and empathy.
- Ability to understand the needs of the College and pivot between interactions with students, faculty, staff, University Police, and legal counsel.
- Effective communication both verbally and in writing.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree with a minimum of three years of relevant experience in Title IX or similar field.
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations related to discrimination and harassment, including Title IX, Title VI, and ADA.
- Experience interpreting federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to Title IX and ADA benefit regulations.
