Description of Duties

The SUNY Research Foundation invites qualified applicants for a full-time, 12 month position in the TRIO Department, State University of New York (SUNY) College at Canton, beginning September, 2024.

Responsibilities

Academic advising, tutoring and tutor supervision, contact reporting, summer bridge instruction, and understanding the importance of diversity, opportunity, and student success.

The Math/Science Specialist and Academic Counselor should have experience with academic advising regarding degree completion, course selection, and a willingness to collaborate with other academic advisors and department chairs regarding degree requirements. The candidate should have experience working with students of diverse backgrounds and have a dedication to their success.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or Science and a Master’s degree in Education
  • experience teaching mathematics or science and understanding of course management systems
  • experience assisting educationally and economically disadvantaged college students and students with disabilities in achieving academic and personal success;
  • strong interpersonal and organizational skills;
  • ability and knowledge to provide academic advising;
  • a willingness to schedule, supervise and organize tutoring for TRiO SSS students,
  • expertise and experience with a variety of assessment instruments;
  • experience with career, transfer, and financial aid counseling; and

Preferred Qualifications:

  • personal experience overcoming educational and economic barriers to success

Prior to a final offer of employment, the selected candidate will be required to submit to a background check including, but not limited to, employment verification, educational and other credential verification, and criminal background check.
