Mellinia (Mimi) Morrison-Perez of Monroe came to SUNY Canton for its picturesque landscape and made the college her home.
“In my junior year of high school, I found out about SUNY Canton's EOP program and applied,” Mimi said. “I was set on this school because the campus has the most scenic views. Plus, the majors offered here intrigued me.”
She joined the EOP summer program in 2021 and fell in love with the campus life, the people, and her teachers. “I knew after my first semester that this was the school for me, so I started working on a way I can help other students going here with their college journey,” she said.
Mimi has been an Admissions Ambassador and a Resident Assistant for the EOP summer program. “I love to see students be themselves and lend a helping hand when I can,” she said.
She’s a senior in the Applied Psychology program and said her favorite instructor is Lecturer Daniel McLane, Ph.D. She said she originally came to Canton as a Veterinary Technology major and then learned her strengths would be better suited for a different career path, so she switched majors.
“I always had a knack for helping others,” Mimi said. “In my second year here, I realized some students felt safe and comfortable with me."
Mimi is looking to stay in St. Lawrence County after she graduates in May 2025.
