Lydia Austin

Lydia Austin of Potsdam is documenting SUNY Canton student history as it unfolds. The Graphic and Multimedia Design major has served as the Paysonian Yearbook editor for the past two years.
“The first day of classes my freshman year of college, I walked into the S.A.I.L. office, and I asked where the Yearbook was created,” Lydia said. “The staff said I was in the right place. I work on the Paysonian Yearbook as the sole editor. I also work as the Marketing, Media, & Advertising Assistant, helping advertise the College Activities Board (CAB) events and am a Senator for CAB.”
She chose SUNY Canton for its location, its programs, the layout of its campus, and the personable faculty and staff.
“My first visit to the campus was when I was in seventh grade,” Lydia said. “My science teacher brought a group of us to the campus for Women in Engineering Day. I had such a positive experience, and I was excited to think about my higher education beyond high school.”
Her favorite photo courses have helped her stay inspired, and her academic studies have deepened her understanding and perspective. “The coursework and projects have expanded my knowledge and sparked a genuine passion for the field,” she said.
Lydia is a commuter student and a founding member of the National Society of Leadership and Success. She graduates in 2026 and has plans to seek a challenging career that aligns with her values.
