Marcus Bell

Marcus Bell of the Bronx decided to attend SUNY Canton because he wanted to experience campus life.
“I never lived on my own before and thought it would give me good life experience,” Marcus said. “I was born and raised in the city, and I wanted to try out something new, so I came up here.”
Since coming to college, Marcus has played on a varsity esports team, built a gaming PC, completed Presidential Internships for Athletics and Public Relations, and worked for the Southworth Library as a Learning Commons Associate.
“One unique experience I’ve had in my program was being in charge of developing a web-based game,” Marcus said. “I also met my amazing girlfriend here.”
Each student in Associate Professor Alainya Kavaloski’s Mobile Media Studies and Games Class had to create a concept. His classmates selected his game for production. “Mine won, so I had to be in charge of it,” he said.
Marcus will graduate from the Digital Communications and Storytelling (formerly Technological Communications) program in May 2025.
“The reason why I chose my major is because I like to be creative, and I enjoy writing stories,” Marcus said. “One of the best parts about my major is that finals are often projects instead of exams.”
He also said his program has allowed him to build connections with several faculty and staff members on campus. Each of those connections has led to new opportunities.
After graduation, Marcus will pursue a career in public relations or as a social media manager.
