Matt Perdomo

Matt Perdomo from Brooklyn is an EOP student who faced challenges during his college career.
“My first year at SUNY Canton was tough,” he recalled. “Seeking a stress-free future and less student debt, I chose to take a semester off to join the New York Army National Guard. Upon my return, my grandfather passed away. This was one of the lowest moments of not just my academic career but my life.”
Following the tragedy, he decided to continue his college education to make his ancestors proud. Matt majors in Information Technology, where he’s currently learning network structures and how to navigate, manage, and edit databases. “I wanted to major in something that can provide a stable future and can help others,” he said.
One of Matt's favorite lecturers is Dr. Daniel McLane, who teaches Sociology for the School of Business and Liberal Arts. He helped Matt fight for his education and believe in himself at one of the most challenging times of his academic career.
As an Audio-Visual Tech for the Student Activities Involvement and Leadership Office, he's noticed a growing trend of students becoming more engaged in campus events and activities. As the Vice President of "Harmony," an active music club on campus, he is proud to share his passion for music, its energy, and the vibrant environment it helps create.
After graduation, he plans to return home to the city for and work as an Audio-Visual Technician for Barclays Center.
