Muhammad Shabbir

Muhammad Shabbir of Kingston quickly felt at home in SUNY Canton’s Civil and Environmental Engineering Technology program. Muhammad chose the college because he said he wanted a hands-on academic experience with career potential.
While being involved on campus as a student ambassador, Vice President for the Society of Women Engineers, a College Academic Standard Committee member, as well as President of the American Society of Engineering, Muhammed said SUNY Canton has provided him with many unique experiences, especially meeting with professionals.
“All the time I spent in the engineering department was amazing for so many reasons, including creating new ideas, meeting new people, hearing other’s stories, and working together as a team on the steel bridge,” he said. “My time at SUNY Canton will be unforgettable.”
Muhammad is a member of the American Institute of Steel Construction Student Chapter, commonly known as the SUNY Canton Steel Bridge Team, which finished 19 out of 200 universities in the nation last year.
He learned a lot through his internship with the New York Department of Transportation. His on-campus experiences in classes, leadership roles, and being part of a team all helped him succeed in the field.
After graduation Muhammad plans on getting his master’s degree in Business Administration or Engineering Management while working full time.
