Institutional Review Board
SUNY Canton’s Institutional Review Board (IRB) reviews and approves all research activity involving the use of human subjects or activities involving data collection from, or related to, human subjects. State and Federal laws require that all projects involving human subjects be reviewed, including student projects.
Allow adequate time (2-4 weeks) for your proposal to be reviewed prior to the intended start date of the project. Principle investigators should be aware that they need to take CITI training (Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative), before a proposal can be approved. Faculty intending to have their students submit projects should preferable contact the IRB the semester prior to those projects commencing. The IRB requires sufficient time to review the proposal and to suggest any revisions prior to project approval.
The specific procedures to apply for an Institutional Review Board review can be found on the Institutional Research Board webpage.
