EV Maintenance Training

SUNY Canton and the Center for Workforce, Community & Industry Partnerships is providing a two-day electric vehicle (EV) safety training course for mechanics.

This course is designed to introduce electric vehicle (EV) technology, systems, and safety to a variety of workers involved in the vehicle maintenance, service, and repair sectors.  During this course, participants will become familiar with EV’s and will be able to describe electric vehicle technology to customers, employees, and supervisors. A focus on working safely around electric vehicles will be emphasized. Electric vehicle facility preparation, required tooling, personal protective equipment, and emergency response will be covered in detail with the goal of preparing participants for implementing EV service, repair, and diagnosis in the workplace. The course concludes with a 20-question exam resulting in a certificate of completion. Participation also includes one set of sized EV electrical safety gloves ($200 value).

Cost

Cost to participate (normally a $550 fee) is covered under a NYSERDA/ANCA grant.

  • Tuesday, July 22 – 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

At the end of this course the technician will be able to:

  • Describe xEV safety standards, laws, and regulations including: ASE, SAE, ISO, ASTM, FMVSS, etc.
  • Describe the operating systems of electric vehicles.
  • Locate critical service information and manufacturer first responder guides.
  • Describe xEV emergency response.
  • Identify vehicle charging standards and equipment.
  • Describe industry standards regulating electric vehicles.
  • Demonstrate best practices for PPE selection, usage, and testing.
  • Demonstrate all safety protocols for working with electric vehicles.
  • Identify best practices for repair facilities.
  • Perform high-voltage system deactivation.

The instruction is a partnership between the Center for Workforce, Community & Industry Partnerships and the Adirondack North Country Association, with funding support from NYSERDA.
