Faculty/Staff Advising
Advising and First Year Programs (AFYP) functions as a supplement and a complement to our faculty advisors. We are available at a consistent time and location, so that students know when and where to find an advisor if their own is unavailable. To that end, our goals are:
- Give general explanations about different majors and curriculums and then direct the student back to their faculty advisor for specific degree requirements.
- Assist students considering changing majors, career goals or schools.
- Answer quick questions about where services are located.
- Explain the intricacies of UCanWeb and how to register for classes, and how to locate the information available on our SUNY Canton website.
- Coordinate the First Year Experience course (FYEP 101)
- Reinforce students’ responsibility for their own SUNY Canton experience.
