SUNY Canton Esports Program Featured on ABC’s ‘Nightline’

The college’s growing varsity esports program was highlighted in a recent episode of ABC’s evening news show “Nightline.”

The segment explores the rise in popularity of collegiate competitive gaming and features SUNY Canton as a leader in the field. It includes interviews with sophomore and “Overwatch” team captain Emily A. Oeser and Athletic Director Randy B. Sieminski. 

It chronicles Oeser’s story to forgo a career in music to enroll in the Game Design and Development program and be one of the first female students to join the college’s esports team.

“Being a woman in esports is very daunting,” she said. “You have to really establish yourself; gaining the trust of your players is just a tad bit harder.”
