The college ranking organization Educate to Career has named SUNY Canton among the top schools in the state that have the flexibility to deliver education in a variety of formats and in an economical way in light of COVID-19.

The organization used several criteria to determine the ranking and announced that SUNY Canton earned a “Tier 1” classification.

“Colleges that rank in our Tier 1 have a physical campus for in-classroom instruction in the event health authorities allow colleges to open in September, robust software and systems to support distance learning programs if a second virus wave forces on-campus closure, faculty experience in teaching online, and reasonable tuitions and fees,” the organization’s website said.

They ranked the state’s public and private institutions in four tiers, with SUNY Canton outperforming some of the most prestigious colleges and universities in New York.

“We’ve been working extremely hard to plan for every eventuality in the fall and have developed a strategy that will deliver the high-quality education we’re known for, whether that’s on-campus, online or a combination of both,” said SUNY Canton President Zvi Szafran. “It’s gratifying that Educate to Career has recognized not only our reputation as an online learning leader, but also our standing as one of the most affordable colleges in the Northeast.”

SUNY Canton began offering online courses in 1999 and now offers hundreds of options across multiple disciplines during traditional semesters, as well as during winter and summer breaks to help students more effectively reach their educational goals. The college’s 21 fully online programs include degrees in healthcare, criminal justice, finance, management, esports and more.

“The college has invested significant time and resources into expanding our distance-learning offerings and improving the online student experience,” Szafran added. “Our innovative flex-learning initiative is the next phase in our commitment to remaining a leader in online instruction.”
