SUNY Canton Transitions to Virtual Events Amid Social Gathering Restrictions

SUNY Canton logoSUNY Canton has used technology to transform traditional in-person campus recruiting experiences into a virtual format in light of the state’s social distancing regulations.

The Admissions Office holds several Admitted Student Days every spring to assist students who have been accepted for the coming fall.

“This is typically a visitor’s opportunity to speak to faculty, tour the campus, and interact with current students in order to make an informed decision about their final college choice,” said Admissions Director Melissa J. Evans. “What we’ve done this year is convert it to a completely virtual format, which includes live presentations, a chat feature, and a scholarship drawing where participants can enter to win a $500 or one of two $250 awards. We also have personalized sessions with financial aid, billing and admissions to help complete enrollment steps.”

Evans said they held the first of three Admitted Student Days March 21, with two more scheduled for March 28 and April 4. She said individual virtual visits are also available and can be requested by sending an email to admissions@canton.edu.

“We had an encouraging turnout for our first event, and we were able to simulate the on-campus experience with video messages, live presentations and the ability to allow attendees to ask faculty questions in real-time,” Evans added.

The college also plans on turning their annual Spring Open House scheduled for April 25 into a completely online format.
