“It was a pleasure meeting the numerous delegates from around the world to show off our incredible facilities,” said Szafran. “We look forward to working closely with them, FISU and the other local colleges to put on a world class tournament. This will be something very special for the North Country to enjoy and experience.”

Delegates from Canada, Ukraine, United States, Latvia, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Japan, and the United Kingdom participated in the tour. Other countries taking part in the 12-nation Men’s Ice Hockey tournament include Korea, Kazakhstan, and Hungary. SUNY Canton's involvement also extends to the classroom. The college developed a Sports Management class to give students a thorough understanding of the entire event management and planning process for the upcoming Games. As a part of the curriculum, students in the class have had hands-on experiences learning from and working alongside these International University Sports Federation (FISU) officials and Lake Placid 2023 FISU Games’ Organizing Committee members. This opportunity will translate directly to the real-world as they will be tasked with playing vital roles working the Games in January.
