SUNY Canton Public Relations Wins Record Awards for Excellence from CASE and SUNYCUAD
The SUNY Canton Office of Public Relations earned its most-ever awards for outstanding creative work this year from two higher education associations.
The Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and the SUNY Council for University Advancement (SUNYCUAD) selected six projects to receive special acknowledgement in 2024.
“Earning six awards in one year is a record for our office, and it’s gratifying to be recognized as a team who can tell the SUNY Canton story in a creative and compelling way,” said Public Relations Director Travis G. Smith. “CASE and SUNYCUAD showcase the best work happening throughout our region, so we are honored to once again be among the awardees.”
CASE selected the Cybersecurity program’s 30-second commercial to receive a Best of District II award. CASE is a global nonprofit organization representing higher education professionals in videography, marketing, public relations, design and other creative fields. District II is the largest of CASE’s eight districts, and SUNY Canton competes against public and private schools throughout the entire mid-Atlantic region and Ontario, Canada. Entries are judged by a panel of peer professionals from each district.
The winning video was shot and produced by college Videographer William P. Young, scripted by Public Relations Manager Lorette A. Murray and narrated by SUNY Canton alumnus Alec Knowles. The commercial is the most-viewed SUNY Canton video to date, amassing nearly 600,000 views on the college’s YouTube channel, and it previously won a SUNYCUAD Best of Category honor last year.
Public Relations also took home several honors from the 2024 SUNYCUAD Awards for Excellence competition: a Best of Category award and four additional Judges’ Citations.
The Awards for Excellence are a statewide competition among SUNY’s 64 campuses.
Young took first place in the Excellence in Video category for the campus tour video. The five-minute video features student guides who give viewers a sense of the SUNY Canton experience using dynamic footage of the college’s academic, residential and recreational landmarks.
Senior Media Relations Manager and Photographer Gregory E. Kie also received SUNYCUAD Judges’ Citations in the following categories:
- Excellence in Writing for the press release titled “SUNY Canton Assistant Professor Develops New Asphalt Test to Counter Cracks and Prevent Potholes.”
- Excellence in Writing for the press release titled “SUNY Canton Native Student Explores Mohawk Names During Presidential Internship.”
- Excellence in Photography for the photo titled “Footbridges at Sunset.”
- Excellence in Strategy (DEI) for “Celebrating Native American Heritage Month.”
The Public Relations Office has previously earned CASE and SUNYCUAD awards for digital design, digital marketing, print design, advertising, television marketing, community relations, and internal communications.
