SeaComm Federal Credit has partnered with SUNY Canton to expand entrepreneurship education.

The Massena-based credit union’s $5,000 gift will help sponsor North Country Launch Day and has been named as a co-title sponsor for the event.

Launch Day is an intensive one-day workshop helping college students discover entrepreneurship and learn what it takes to transform ideas into viable businesses. It is designed to inspire and prepare the next generation of entrepreneurs in the North Country. The inaugural event will be held January 31 at SUNY Canton.

“SUNY Canton is excited to host students from across the North Country to help them bring their big ideas to life,” said Vice President for Strategic Relations and Communications Lenore VanderZee. “The future is bright with this new generation of entrepreneurs, and we thank SeaComm for believing and investing in their success.”

Participants will pitch business ideas in advance and then join teams to develop the top-voted concepts during an intensive 9-hour session. With guidance from industry mentors, including alumni and local business leaders, students will tackle challenges, refine ideas and then present pitches to a live audience.

“SeaComm is committed to enhancing and expanding the economy of the North Country,” said SeaComm President & Chief Executive Officer Scott A. Wilson. “This initiative aligns perfectly with our vision of entrepreneurship education. Students will have the chance to explore innovative ideas and leave equipped with new insights and networks to help them succeed in a dynamic business environment.”

North Country Launch Day is hosted by SUNY Canton in partnership with Clarkson University and the Shipley Center for Innovation. It will challenge students from SUNY Canton, Clarkson University, SUNY Potsdam, St. Lawrence University, Paul Smiths College, SUNY Plattsburgh, Jefferson Community College, and North Country Community College to develop bold business ideas, collaborate with mentors, and build ventures that shape the North Country’s future. The New York State Innovation Hot Spot provided additional funding for the event.
