Accreditors Seek Feedback on SUNY Canton’s Practical Nursing Program
The college’s one-year Nursing program has integrated cutting-edge simulation technology to prepare students for dynamic healthcare careers.
SUNY Canton is undergoing a site visit and review for the continuing accreditation of its Practical Nursing certificate program by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
As part of the review, accreditors are inviting community members to share their comments during an open meeting at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, in Cook Hall Room 121.
“SUNY Canton is proud of its advancements in the Practical Nursing program, reflecting its commitment to providing students with the skills and knowledge they need to excel in today’s dynamic healthcare environment,” said Interim Nursing Director Angelina Glover, DNP. “With the integration of cutting-edge simulation technology, a revamped curriculum, and a dedicated team of faculty, the program continues to set a standard of excellence in nursing education.”
Glover noted that the program’s success is a testament to its highly engaged faculty members, who bring extensive clinical expertise and a passion for teaching. “Through individualized mentoring, small class sizes, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment, faculty members ensure each student receives the support needed to thrive academically and professionally,” she said.
The goal of accreditation is to ensure that the education provided by SUNY Canton meets acceptable levels of quality as a premiere educational institution. Members of the college’s faculty, staff and administration use accreditation as another way to measure the success of programs and evaluate the value of each career-driven major.
The practical nursing program was established in 2009 as a one-year certificate program and is noted for providing a highly respected workforce for physicians’ offices, clinics, nursing homes, hospice organizations and hospitals. It joins the two-year Nursing program, the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program and the Nursing dual-degree program as premiere health-related programs within the college’s School of Health, Science and Criminal Justice.
