SUNY Canton SBDC Updates Name to Highlight North Country Business Services
The Small Business Development Center (SBDC) has changed its identity to better reflect its true service area and client focus. The SUNY Canton SBDC will now be known as the North Country SBDC at SUNY Canton, serving small and medium sized businesses in St. Lawrence, Franklin, Clinton, Essex, Hamilton, Warren, and Washington Counties.
“SUNY Canton is committed to supporting entrepreneurship and economic growth in our region,” said College President Zvi Szafrnan. “The North Country SBDC supports our continuing plans to serve a broader network of area businesses and ensure area entrepreneurs, including our students, have the resources and guidance they need to succeed.”
The SBDC provides no-cost, individual advisement services to small businesses at all stages of development from start-up, through growth and transition. Services include assistance with business planning, funding searches, financial analysis, marketing, human resources, regulatory compliance, government contracting and more.
“We’ll be providing the same time-proven services, just under a new name,” said North Country SBDC Director Dale Rice. “Our staff will continue to guide all existing and aspiring entrepreneurs throughout their business development journey just as we always have.”
The Canton SBDC was established at SUNY Canton in 1998 serving St. Lawrence and Franklin Counties. In 2019, the SUNY Canton SBDC service area further expanded to include Clinton, Essex, Hamilton, Warren, and Washington Counties. To make services accessible throughout this coverage area, the North Country SBDC has established several community outreach locations where clients can meet with advisors by appointment closer to home.
