SUNY Canton Faculty Member Receives Distinguished Faculty Advisor Award
SUNY Canton Associate Professor Puttagounder Dhanasekaran Swaminathan has received a Distinguished Faculty Advisor Award from the professional manufacturing organization SME. Dhanasekaran Swaminathan, who goes by Dr. P.S. on campus, teaches machine design, engineering materials, GD&T, MET electrical engineering and materials selection courses for the Mechanical Engineering Technology program within the college’s Canino School of Engineering Technology.
He has 27 years of industry experience in designing, researching, and manufacturing electromechanical systems, including antennas and gearboxes for communications, disaster management, and telemedicine applications. He also advises students’ senior capstone projects and has published research papers with several professional organizations.
He is the faculty advisor for SUNY Canton’s SME student chapter, which has been recognized with gold status.
Established in 1932 as a nonprofit organization, SME represents the North American manufacturing industry, including manufacturers, academia, professionals, students, and the communities in which they operate. It was formerly known as the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and adopted its current name in 2013.
