SUNY Canton’s Sixth Annual Athletics Giving Week a Resounding Success
SUNY Canton Athletics raised more than $83,000 from over 1,200 total gifts during its sixth annual Athletics Giving Week. This campaign, which was guided and conducted in conjunction with the Canton College Foundation, recently concluded on April 17. College officials are recognizing the campaign as an overwhelming success.
“We would like to personally thank all our donors who made our latest student-driven fundraising effort more exciting and successful than anyone expected,” said Vice President for Advancement Geoffrey VanderWoude. “Your generosity continues to create meaningful opportunities for our student-athletes and strengthens the future of SUNY Canton Athletics.”

The fundraising effort resulted in 1,210 donations and $83,048.52 raised for the Athletics department and its teams.
“Athletics Giving Week reflects what makes our community so special," said Director of Development Sara Hartman-Richards. "The dedication of our coaches and student-athletes continues to inspire us every day, and the support from our campus community, alumni, parents, and friends makes all the difference.”
The women's basketball team led the way with a record-breaking 433 total gifts, while women’s hockey received 195 donations. Men’s soccer (130), club hockey (102) and women’s lacrosse (69) rounded out the top five.
The top five for total dollars raised included women’s hockey ($30,632.57), women’s basketball ($15,079.89), men’s soccer ($8,217.61), men’s hockey ($7,123.94) and club hockey ($3,345.90).
A parent of a student-athlete from the women’s hockey program made a generous $10,000 matching gift, which helped spearhead women’s hockey to the most money raised ($30,632.57) of any program.
St. Lawrence Federal Credit Union, Brookfield Power, North Country Savings Bank, NBT Bank, and Pepsi Cola Bottlers of Ogdensburg were among the generous sponsors who created unique giving incentives to help drive donations.
"For the sixth straight year, we've been amazed at the incredible support for the SUNY Canton Athletics Giving Week," Director of Athletics Randy B. Sieminski said. "I'm particularly proud of the amazing generosity and support from our own student-athletes and their families, supporting themselves and each other to maximize their college experiences. So many fantastic alumni, friends, supporters, community members and local businesses once again came together to support our teams and our student-athletes. We can't thank them enough."
