SUNY Canton Launches Bridge to A Million Scholarship Drive
The SUNY Canton College Foundation has announced a new fundraising effort to reach $1 million in scholarship support for next fall.
Vice President for Advancement Geoffrey C.S. VanderWoude announced the new Bridge to a Million initiative during the college’s annual Scholarship Luncheon event, held Thursday, Oct. 8, at the Roos House Convocation, Athletic and Recreation Center.
“This year, we are proud to be awarding more than $840,000 in scholarship aid, our most in history, said Vice President for Advancement Geoffrey C.S. VanderWoude. “In true SUNY Canton fashion, we’re always moving forward.”
Over the next several months, the Canton College Foundation team will be focused on raising the funds necessary to hit this transformative goal.
“We’re a tight-knit community here at SUNY Canton; we always have been and always will be,” VanderWoude said. “It’s part of what makes us special. Now’s the time to show the world what a bridge to a million looks like at SUNY Canton.”
SUNY Canton president Dr. Zvi Szafran commended the over 100 donors and 250 scholarship recipients at the celebration.
“All you students have been directly supported by the generosity of the people in this room,” Szafran said. “For all of you, getting your degree would be more of a challenge without this support. For some, it might be impossible to make it over the finish line without it.”
The Bridge to a Million initiative marks the beginning of a multi-year commitment to increase scholarship support for SUNY Canton students. The college will work to sustain $1 million or more in scholarships annually for the next four years, ensuring that students who receive new scholarships can count on that support throughout their college careers.
