English Proficiency Requirements
For those students who English is NOT their first language, an English Proficiency Exam must be completed in order to be admitted to SUNY Canton. Students must submit demonstration of English Proficiency in one of the following five ways:
- TOEFL (School Code 2523)
- Required Internet Based Test Score: 61
- Required Paper Based Test Score: 500
- Required Computer Based Test Score: 173
- IELTS
- Required Overall Score: 6.0 or higher
- Required Score in each Sub-Section Score: 5.5
- iTEP
- Required Score: 3.5 or higher
- PTE Academic
- Required Score: 44 or higher
- College Level English Course
- Final grade of C or higher
Conditional Admissions
For those students who meet the grade point average requirement but do NOT meet the English Proficiency Requirement, Conditional Admission will be offered by SUNY Canton. Students who choose to accept Conditional Admission will enroll in an English as Second Language (ESL) program at our partner school, Fulton-Montgomery Community College (FMCC) for a period of one-two semesters, depending on initial assessment at FMCC.
Once the student successfully completes the ESL program at FMCC, they will then be guaranteed admission at SUNY Canton. For more information, please contact the International Admissions Coordinator, Kaitlin French at frenc137@canton.edu.
