Scholarship Information

SUNY Canton is proud to acknowledge the diligence and dedication of students to their studies by providing scholarships to help ease the financial burden of continuing their education. SUNY Canton scholarships open the doors to an education for determined students from various backgrounds.

Scholarships vary by type, in addition to the amount awarded. While many of our scholarships are awarded based on your application to SUNY Canton, and/or your academic transcripts, many also require an application. The application allows us to learn more about you. You are more likely to receive a scholarship award if you complete the general scholarship application in full. However, completing the general scholarship application does not guarantee that you will receive a scholarship, but it does increase your chances. The earlier you complete the general application, the better your chances of being awarded.

  • The general scholarship application will automatically match you with scholarships that you qualify for. After completing the application, you may be presented with “Recommended Opportunities” that often require supplemental questions. Please complete these to be considered for those specific opportunities. You are encouraged to apply for scholarships as soon as possible, as funds are limited. If awarded, you will be notified via your SUNY Canton email address.
  • The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) should be completed as soon as it is available.
  • The general scholarship application opens on October 1st and we encourage students to complete the application as early as possible to be considered for scholarship awards for the next academic year. Please note, completing the general scholarship application does not guarantee you will receive an award. Instructions and a link for completing the scholarship application will be emailed to your SUNY Canton email account upon your acceptance to SUNY Canton.
  • Many of the scholarships are renewable after one year, provided that the student continues to meet the scholarship criteria.

Please note that SUNY Canton is a Division III institution. Therefore, we are not allowed to offer athletic scholarships. However, we are able to offer financial aid, based on merit and/or need.
