Industrial Advisory Board
The role of the Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) is to provide advisement on program curriculum, program development and assessment, enrollment and retention, and employment. Several members are major employers of our AAS graduates and two of the companies have already hired our BTech graduates. We have recently added members from Syracuse, NY and Baltimore, MD which hopefully will bring recruiting suggestions from a broader geographic range. Many of our students have had internships, prior to graduation, with some of the companies represented on the board. They also have provided many excellent suggestions for potential funding and recruiting. The individuals comprising the board represent a broad cross section of the civil engineering, environmental engineering, and construction industry. The following are words of advice from the IAB on how to achieve a successful career, and an overview of the IAB members.
Words of Advice from the IAB – How to Have A Successful Career
- Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone, you would be amazed at how much you grow!
- Be capable of communicating clearly and concisely – both written and oral communication skills are very important in the workplace.
- Be ready and willing to help out when asked.
- Strive to put extra effort into your assignments by being observant, cognizant and communicative.
- Being a part of a team that completes some of the largest, most unique construction projects built in this country is challenging and rewarding.
- Being a part of that team starts with a solid education in Engineering and Science. Canton College offers that opportunity for those students that have an interest and commitment to that goal.
