The Financial Aid Office is located in the Student Service Center (One Hop Shop).
We exist to provide personal assistance to students and their families on a one-to-one basis. We can assist you with the various financial aid applications and questions you have on the processes from your first application to beyond graduation.
Every effort is made to ensure that students are not denied the benefits of a SUNY Canton education on the sole basis of financial need.

Governor Kathy Hochul today launched a public awareness campaign with college students, Administration officials, and education leaders to encourage students to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid to unlock state and federal financial aid opportunities.

Student corrections are now broadly available for applicants and their contributors. Students who need to make corrections or who choose to make additions or changes to their FAFSA forms should return to studentaid.gov to complete those updates.

The ability for students to make update and corrections to their FAFSA forms will be available in the first half of April. In advance of that implementation, the Department will provide detailed information to partners, students, and families on how to correct the most common FAFSA form errors including no signatures and selecting ‘yes’ to applying for unsubsidized loans only.

Previously, if a parent with no SSN started the 2024-25 FAFSA form for a student, the parent received an error message on the “Student Information” page. This incorrect error message stated that the user was “unauthorized to act on behalf of the student since they already have a 24-25 FAFSA form” even if the student had not started an application.

The US Department of Education is making critical improvements to the studentaid.gov account creation process for those without Social Security Numbers by automating much of the process and expanding call center staff.

SUNY Canton has extended our suggested 2024-25 FAFSA filing deadline to March 1 to allow additional filing time due to delays with the new form.
The preferred enrollment deposit deadline has been moved to June 1. You can request a full deposit refund through June 30.

The Department of Education announced that 2024-25 FAFSA submissions will not be sent to colleges and universities until mid-March as they continue to update the processing system.

Higher Education Service Corporation (HESC) has confirmed that continuing students are currently unable to complete their TAP application as they rely on the FAFSA data for student verification.
