New York State Aid Programs

A few of the different types of New York State student aid programs available to degree seeking students is listed below. Once you have completed your FAFSA, you will need to complete the appropriate state application(s) as well.

Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)

This is a scholarship program to help cover tuition expenses.

  • Must be a legal resident of New York State and have resided in New York State for 12 continuous months
  • Must complete FAFSA and TAP applications

Excelsior Scholarship

This is a “last dollar” scholarship. Any federal or NY State grants or scholarships are applied to tuition first and the Excelsior Scholarship covers any remaining tuition expenses.

  • Must be enrolled full-time
  • Must complete at least 30 credits per year
  • Must complete application (only open for a limited time)

NYS Scholarships for Academic Excellence

This is a scholarship for students achieving academic excellence while in high school.

NYS DREAM Act

This gives undocumented and other students access to New York State-administered student financial aid to support their higher education costs.
