The academy classes will be held beginning June 1 and July 12 in Dana Hall, corresponding with the college’s Summer Sessions.

The college is continuing an agreement with the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, and the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services to offer the valuable training. It is open to individuals who have been hired by county agencies, as well as all SUNY students who meet the eligibility guidelines. Academy coursework can be taken for college credit.

More than a dozen cadets, including students, are registered to attend. Its classes will be among the first held in the recently renovated Dana Hall building. The spacious new classrooms will allow for required distancing between students and a safe learning environment for the in-person trainings. Housing options are available at Kennedy Hall.

The curriculum incorporates a combination of traditional lectures and hands-on training. Cadets learn defensive tactics, hostage-survival techniques, first aid, crime scene preservation, effective communication strategies, and other safety procedures.
