Career Opportunities for Graduates
An A.S. Degree in Early Childhood opens the door to a variety of career opportunities in the field of Early Childhood Education. It can be your 1st step in a long and rewarding career of working with young children and families. Graduates of our program have found ready employment in a variety of programs working with young children, most of them in the North Country, but some as far afield as Albany, Rochester, NYC, and the Carolina’s and Florida. Our graduates work as Head Teachers and Assistant Teachers in Head Start programs, licensed Child Care Centers, private nursery schools, or as Teacher Assistants in public schools. A few are self-employed Family Child Care Providers.
Currently 75% of our graduates continue their education in pursuit of a Bachelor’s Degree – many students have received their Master’s Degree and feel the Early Childhood foundation and knowledge they received when enrolled at SUNY Canton was most beneficial in providing them with a clear career path and direction, the confidence to continue their college studies, and an appreciation for the instruction, advisement, care and friendships made at SUNY Canton.
“I have come to the conclusion that I will never in my life come across people like the family I came to know and love in Canton. The family that you introduced to me, which includes you as well as Mrs. Martin, are still so very close to my heart even a year and a half after graduating."
