Marela Fiacco, who teaches in the Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management program, earned her Ph.D. in Healthcare Administration from Northcentral University alongside her busy higher education career.

SUNY Canton Named Among Most Pet-Friendly Colleges in U.S.

SUNY Canton has earned a ranking as one of the most pet-friendly schools in the nation from the website HelloBark.com. The college earned the spot primarily due to its status as a pioneer in pet-friendly residential accommodations, which began in 1997. The Pet Wing, located in Mohawk Hall, allows students to bring a variety of companions with them to live on campus, including cats, ferrets, rabbits, hamsters, gerbils and fish.

SUNY Canton Renames Food Pantry to Honor Watertown’s Renzi Family

The Renzi Foodservice Charitable Foundation of Watertown is making sure SUNY Canton students will not go hungry through a multi-year charitable gift. In the latest of a series of donations to the SUNY Canton College Foundation, Inc., the company pledged $25,000 over five years to the Student Emergency Fund. In recognition of the generous donation, the college has added the Renzi name to its Food Pantry.

SUNY Canton Esports Lands in Top Tier of SUNY, ECAC

Every SUNY Canton Esports team made the playoffs during the Fall 2020 semester. More than 80 students on nine teams competed this year in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and the newly formed SUNY Esports League. The teams’ collective overall performance put SUNY Canton in the upper echelon of the esports scene in the northeast region.

Technological Communications Team Helps Create Children’s Museum Exhibit

A student and faculty member from SUNY Canton helped arrange the personal narratives and create dynamic imagery for a new exhibit at the North Country Children’s Museum in Potsdam. Logan Coggins, a student in the Technological Communications bachelor’s degree program from Redwood, worked with Associate Professor Alainya Kavaloski, Ph.D., to shape the oral recollections .

William A. Myers Ph.D. is building on family ties through his career at SUNY Canton. “My family and I have a long history with the college,” Myers said. “My father, Arthur Myers, is a 1958 SUNY Canton graduate. I met my wife, Connie, here in the 1980’s, and my youngest daughter, Carrie, is a 2019 graduate.”

An up-and-coming leader has taken over the direction of SUNY Canton’s One-Hop Shop Student Service Center. Amanda L. Crump was recently promoted to senior staff assistant and was named interim director of operations for the cluster of key offices that offer a range of services for students. Automotive Technology Faculty Member Promoted at SUNY Canton

Brandon J. Baldwin has owned 42 cars over his life, with as many as 14 at one time. Widely regarded as SUNY Canton’s foremost auto enthusiast, Baldwin is being celebrated for his promotion to associate professor in the Canino School of Engineering Technology, where he has been teaching in the Automotive Technology program for the past 14 years.

The SUNY Canton Admissions Office will be turning their fall campus information events into live, online experiences for prospective students and their families in November. The final fall Saturday Virtual Open House will be held at 9 a.m. Nov. 14. Renowned Author, Civil Rights Advocate Dr. Carol Anderson to Discuss Voter Suppression Oct. 30

The Associated Colleges of the St. Lawrence Valley will host a virtual discussion with one of the leading experts on race, justice and equality in the U.S. Author and historian Dr. Carol Anderson will speak virtually at noon, Friday, Oct. 30. Her presentation is titled “One Person, No Vote: How Voter Suppression is Destroying Our Democracy,” which is also the title of her 2018 book. Volkswagen Donates Atlas SUV to SUNY Canton’s Automotive Technology Program

A faculty member and a staff member from SUNY Canton’s School of Business and Liberal Arts have received State University of New York Chancellor’s Awards. Occupational fraud is on the rise, and internal auditors hold responsibility to work with the organization’s governance to curb white-collar crime, according to a SUNY Canton faculty member’s latest publication. SUNY Canton Student Research Team Presents Recycling Strategies for 3D Printing

A team of SUNY Canton students has been researching best ways to recycle plastic from 3D printers. Under direction of SUNY Canton Professor Matthew J. Burnett, who teaches in college’s Graphic and Multimedia Design program, students have been examining technical and entrepreneurial aspects of reclaiming and reusing waste plastic filament. SUNY Canton Student Receives Red Cross Scholarship

The student volunteer who helped orchestrate SUNY Canton’s blood drives has been selected to receive a scholarship from the American Red Cross. Simone N. Moultrie of the Bronx recently received notification that she had won the SUNY Challenge Scholarship Award for $2,500. Moultrie just graduated from the college’s two-year Liberal Arts – General Studies program and will be continuing on in the Early Childhood program.

Academic Calendar Shifts for Fall 2020 Semester at SUNY Canton

SUNY Canton has moved its start date one week later for the fall 2020 semester to prepare for any continuing eventualities related to COVID-19. Fall classes will begin Aug. 27, according to SUNY Canton President Zvi Szafran. The former academic calendar scheduled Aug. 20 as the first day of classes and was among the earliest start dates in the country.
